Violence against women? Yes, unfortunately, the statistics clearly show that each day women, from around the world (including Ottawa), are victims of abuse. However, the trauma caused by the violence doesn’t just affect women. The lives of our children, parents, siblings, spouses and grandparents all suffer when the women, who care for and love, are victims of violence. Fortunately, there is a way to reduce the pervasiveness of violence against women and create greater harmony in our society. To accomplish this goal, the Vagina Monologues has embraced two distinct and complimentary strategies. First, connect to the minds of people and create greater education and awareness around the subjects of violence against women. Second, to connect to the hearts of people. On that note, The Made By Men’s Bake Sale is a community driven initiative by men in support of respect and dignity for women. Food isn’t just a good way to get to a man’s heart, it’s also how men can show their support and commitment to all the women in their respective lives.
